Black mold under AC in Dubai: DIY or professional help?« Back to Previous Page

The AC unit in our bedroom in Jumeirah has been leaking a bit, and I just pulled back the corner of the carpet to find a pretty large patch of black mold on the concrete underneath. It’s been humid for the last month and the smell is getting stronger. Is this something I can handle myself with bleach and a dehumidifier from ACE, or do I absolutely need to call a professional mold removal company here in Dubai, and what would that likely cost?

A professional assessment is strongly recommended in this scenario. The combination of black mold on concrete, a persistent leak, and a strong odor indicates a potentially serious issue that bleach cannot adequately address.

Concrete is porous, meaning mold growth extends deep within the material. Surface cleaning with bleach will not remove the root structure and the mold will return. The strong smell confirms active microbial growth. In Dubai's high humidity, this problem will only escalate without proper intervention. A professional remediation company will first identify and fix the AC leak—the critical water source—then use industrial-grade HEPA filtration and antimicrobials designed for porous surfaces to treat the area properly.

Costs for professional remediation are variable, as they depend entirely on the extent of the contamination. The final scope is determined by a proper inspection that maps the moisture and mold growth. For an accurate assessment and quote, you would need to request an on-site evaluation from a certified provider. While a dehumidifier from ACE is a good supportive tool for controlling ambient humidity after the leak is fixed, it is not a solution for an existing, saturated mold colony.
