Scrub it into the grout, let it sit, then rinse. For tougher cases, a diluted bleach solution (1 part bleach to 10 parts water) applied carefully only to the grout lines can help, but ensure the room is well-ventilated.

However, if the black discoloration returns quickly after cleaning, the mold may have penetrated deep into the grout or behind the tiles. This is a common problem when the shower sealant has failed. Building maintenance should handle this, as it's often a waterproofing issue they are responsible for rectifying.

If the musty smell persists in the room itself or you or family members experience increased allergy symptoms, the mold could be spreading in hidden areas like behind walls or under flooring.
