Black shower mold removal cost in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

The grout between the tiles in my master bathroom shower has been turning black and it’s started to spread to the ceiling. I tried scrubbing it with bleach, but it came back worse after just a couple of days. I’m in an older building in Bur Dubai and I’m worried the humidity is making it a bigger problem. What’s the average cost to get this professionally treated in Dubai, and is it worth hiring a company or should I keep trying DIY solutions?

Black mold in showers recurs quickly in Dubai's climate because high humidity and condensation provide a constant moisture source. Bleach only removes surface discoloration but doesn't address the root cause or the hyphae (roots) growing deep within porous grout and ceiling materials.

For a recurring problem that has spread to the ceiling, a professional assessment is strongly recommended. This suggests a persistent moisture issue, possibly from inadequate ventilation, a hidden leak, or condensation within the wall or ceiling cavity. A reputable inspector will use a moisture meter to identify the true source of water feeding the mold, which is the critical first step.

Treatment cost is not fixed; it depends entirely on the extent of the infestation and the required remediation. A small, surface-level area on grout is a simpler fix. However, mold on the ceiling often indicates a more serious problem, potentially requiring access to check for and rectify saturation in the ceiling void or behind tiles. You should expect to request a detailed, on-site inspection and quote that outlines the cause, the scope of work, and the methods to be used.

For a lasting solution, the company must fix the moisture source, properly remove the contaminated materials, and apply EPA-approved treatments. Then, improving ventilation is essential—run the bathroom exhaust fan for at least 30 minutes after every shower. Given the building's age, it's also worth checking that your exhaust fan is actually venting to the outside and not just recirculating humid air into the ceiling space, which is a common issue in older Dubai properties.
