Black spots in bedroom corner: mold and need professional?« Back to Previous Page
|
We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of small black spots appearing along the corner where the wall meets the ceiling in our master bedroom. It’s right above the window and seems worse since the weather got more humid. Is this something I can just wipe away with bleach myself, or do I need to call a professional to check for a bigger problem?

Those black spots are almost certainly mold, a common issue in Dubai due to high humidity and constant AC use creating condensation. Wiping with bleach is a temporary fix that often fails because it doesn't address the moisture source or penetrate porous surfaces like drywall.
The location—above a window in a corner—suggests a thermal bridge, where warm, humid outdoor air meets the cooler interior wall, causing condensation inside the wall cavity. This often indicates a hidden moisture problem that simple cleaning won't resolve. For a small patch (under one square foot), you can carefully clean it with a vinegar solution or a dedicated mold remover, wearing a mask. However, if it returns quickly or you've had persistent humidity, a professional inspection is advised. They use moisture meters and thermal cameras to find the hidden condensation source, which is crucial for a permanent solution. In many Dubai villas, this is related to insufficient insulation or AC duct leakage. |
