Can I clean bathroom black mold myself or call professional?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing and I suspect it’s from the black mold that’s started growing in the corner of our master bathroom. It’s been spreading for a few weeks, especially since the humidity spiked, and it’s on the ceiling and behind the toilet. Is this something I can clean myself with bleach from Lulu Hypermarket, or do I need to call a professional cleaning company?

As a certified mold remediation specialist in Dubai, I strongly advise against using bleach for bathroom mold. While it may remove the visible discoloration, bleach is primarily water, which can actually feed the mold roots (hyphae) growing within porous surfaces like grout and drywall. This often leads to a rapid and worse regrowth. More critically, the act of scrubbing can disturb the colony, releasing a concentrated cloud of harmful spores and mycotoxins into the air, which is likely exacerbating your children's coughing.

The persistent high humidity and constant use of AC in Dubai create a perfect environment for mold, as condensation forms on cold surfaces like bathroom ceilings and behind toilets. Given the health symptoms you've described and the extent of the growth (spreading on multiple surfaces), this is no longer a simple surface cleaning issue. The mold has likely infiltrated the building materials.

For a situation involving health impacts and suspected hidden growth, a professional inspection is essential. Our certified inspectors use moisture meters and thermal imaging cameras to identify the full extent of the moisture source and contamination, which is often not visible to the naked eye. Remediation then involves advanced techniques like HEPA vacuuming, antimicrobial treatments, and addressing the underlying humidity issue to prevent recurrence.

For the health of your family and to ensure the mold is properly eradicated, I recommend a professional assessment. Please call us at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com for a comprehensive inspection and remediation plan.
