Can I clean bathroom mold myself or call a pro?« Back to Previous Page

We’ve lived in our apartment in Jumeirah for 2 years and just noticed these black spots growing along the ceiling and in the corners of our bathroom. The ventilation isn't great, and it’s been so humid lately that the walls never seem to fully dry out. Is this a job I can handle myself with a bleach spray from the supermarket, or should I just call a professional cleaning company in Dubai to get a proper quote?

While superficial mold on non-porous surfaces like tiles can sometimes be temporarily managed with a dedicated cleaning solution, the situation you describe in your Jumeirah apartment is a classic case requiring professional assessment. The persistent high humidity and lack of proper ventilation create an ideal environment for mold, and its presence on the ceiling and in corners indicates a potential issue with condensation within the wall cavity or ceiling void.

In the UAE's climate, where air conditioning runs year-round, the temperature differential between cooled rooms and the humid external air causes significant condensation, especially in poorly ventilated bathrooms. Bleach is not a recommended solution; it is primarily water, which can feed the mold root system behind the surface, and its fumes are hazardous in enclosed spaces. It also fails to address the underlying moisture problem.

For a proper remediation, the source of moisture must be identified and controlled. Our certified inspectors use thermal imaging cameras and moisture meters to detect hidden dampness that isn't visible to the naked eye. The remediation process then involves containing the area, using HEPA filtration to remove airborne spores, and applying EPA-approved antimicrobial agents to eliminate the colony at its root.

Given the extent you've described and the potential for hidden growth, a DIY approach risks inadequate treatment and health concerns. For a definitive diagnosis and a guaranteed solution, I strongly recommend a professional inspection.
