Can I clean black mold in wardrobe myself?« Back to Previous Page
|
My wardrobe in the bedroom has started smelling really damp, and I just found a bunch of black fuzzy spots on the back wall and on some of my leather bags. It's been crazy humid lately and I think the lack of airflow in there is causing it. Is this something I can clean myself with vinegar or bleach, or do I need to call a professional cleaning company to handle it properly?

Based on the symptoms you've described—a damp smell, black fuzzy spots, and the presence of leather goods—you are very likely dealing with active mold growth. The recent high humidity and lack of airflow in the wardrobe are classic contributing factors here in Dubai.
While a small, superficial patch might be addressed with a DIY solution, your case involving porous materials (the wall) and valuable items (leather bags) is more serious. Using vinegar or bleach is strongly discouraged. These are ineffective at penetrating porous surfaces to kill the root system (hyphae) and can actually aggravate the problem by releasing more spores into the air. Bleach, in particular, is mostly water, which can feed the mold after the chlorine evaporates. For a proper remediation, the affected area must be isolated, the source of moisture identified and controlled, and all contaminated materials either professionally cleaned or disposed of. Leather items require specialized cleaning techniques to prevent permanent damage. Given Dubai's climate, where high humidity and year-round AC use create constant condensation risks, a professional inspection is highly recommended to assess the full extent of the problem and prevent recurrence. For a definitive assessment and a safe, guaranteed remediation, I advise you to contact our specialists. We can conduct a thorough inspection, provide a detailed protocol, and handle the situation in compliance with all relevant UAE standards.
