Can I clean black mold myself or call a pro?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing and I suspect it's from the black spots I just found behind the wardrobe in our master bedroom. We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed it, probably from all the humidity lately. Is this something I can clean with bleach myself, or do I need to call one of those professional mold remediation companies in Dubai?

Based on the symptoms you've described—coughing in children and visible black spots—this is a situation that warrants immediate and professional attention. While small, surface-level mold on non-porous materials can sometimes be addressed with a diluted detergent solution (bleach is not recommended as it does not kill the root structure and can exacerbate respiratory issues), your case is different.

The location behind a wardrobe is a significant red flag. This indicates a persistent moisture issue, likely from condensation due to our year-round AC use creating a temperature differential with the humid Dubai air, or a potential hidden leak. The mold you see is almost certainly just the surface manifestation; the root structure (mycelium) will be deep within the wall. Disturbing it by cleaning yourself will release a massive amount of spores into your bedroom air, severely compromising your indoor air quality and likely worsening your children's respiratory symptoms.

Furthermore, the UAE's strict health and environmental regulations for landlords and property managers often require professional remediation to ensure the problem is solved to a standard that protects tenant health and the building's integrity. A DIY attempt will not address the core moisture problem, leading to rapid regrowth.

For the health of your family and to ensure the problem is eradicated correctly, I strongly recommend a professional inspection and remediation. Our certified team at Saniservice uses advanced thermal imaging to pinpoint the moisture source and follows a strict containment and air filtration protocol to safely remove the bio-contamination. Please do not attempt to clean this yourself. Call us at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com for an immediate assessment.
