Can I clean black mold myself or call a pro in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing and I suspect it's from the black mold I just found behind the wardrobe in our master bedroom. It's been extra humid lately and we've had the AC running non-stop, but I think it might have started from a small water leak we had fixed a couple of months ago. The patch is about the size of a dinner plate and looks pretty nasty. Is this something I can safely clean with bleach myself, or do I need to call a professional mold removal company here in Dubai?

Based on your description, this is a serious situation that requires professional attention, not a DIY bleach solution. The presence of visible black mold covering an area the size of a dinner plate, combined with a prior water leak and current health symptoms like your children's coughing, is a significant concern.

In Dubai's climate, with its high humidity and reliance on constant air conditioning, mold spores can rapidly circulate throughout your home's ventilation system. Bleach is a surface-level treatment that does not address the root moisture problem or penetrate porous materials like drywall. It can also release harmful fumes and is largely ineffective for a colony of this size. Disturbing the mold during cleaning can aerosolize a high concentration of spores, potentially worsening the air quality and health effects.

The UAE's civil defense and public health regulations strongly recommend professional remediation for mold infestations exceeding a few square feet to ensure occupant safety and proper containment. A certified inspector will conduct air quality and surface sampling to identify the exact species (e.g., the potentially toxic Stachybotrys chartarum) and the full extent of the contamination, which is often hidden within walls or AC ducts.

For a case like yours, I strongly advise against self-remediation. You require a professional assessment and a certified hygienization process. Our team at Saniservice is equipped with specialized containment equipment, HEPA filtration, and industrial-grade antimicrobials to safely remove the mold, rectify the moisture source, and restore your indoor air quality.
