Can I clean black mold myself or need a professional?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing more than usual and I’ve just noticed a patch of black speckles in the corner of our bedroom closet, behind some winter clothes. It’s an interior wall in our Jumeirah villa and I’m worried it’s spreading. Is this something I can tackle myself with vinegar and a scrub brush, or do I absolutely need to call a professional mold inspector to check it out properly?

Based on your description, this is a situation that warrants a professional inspection. In Dubai's climate, where high humidity and constant air conditioning create ideal conditions for mold growth, a small visible patch is often just the tip of the iceberg. The interior wall cavity can harbor significant hidden growth, fueled by condensation from the AC system.

While vinegar can kill some surface mold, it is ineffective against the root structure (hyphae) and offers no residual protection. Scrubbing can also aerosolize toxic spores, potentially worsening your children's respiratory symptoms. For any mold issue exceeding one square foot, or when health symptoms are present, DIY methods are not recommended and can be hazardous.

Our certified inspectors use advanced tools like borescopes to inspect inside walls and air quality tests to identify spore types and concentration levels. This is crucial, as the toxicity of black mold can vary. We operate in full compliance with Dubai Municipality's health and safety guidelines for environmental contaminants.

Given the location in your bedroom and the associated health concerns, a professional assessment is essential to safeguard your family's health and your property. I strongly recommend you call our team at Saniservice for a comprehensive inspection. Please call 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule a diagnosis.
