Can I clean black wall speckles myself or call a pro?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed black speckles forming along the bottom edge of the wall in our master bedroom closet. It’s a small area but it’s been really humid lately and I'm worried it's spreading. Is this something I can clean myself with vinegar or bleach, or do I absolutely need to call a professional company to deal with it?

Black speckles along a wall's bottom edge in Dubai are a common sign of surface mould, typically fuelled by high humidity and condensation from AC units. This is especially prevalent in closets with restricted airflow.
For a very small area (under one square foot), you can clean it yourself. A solution of distilled white vinegar is often more effective than bleach, as it can kill the mould roots. Scrub gently, then dry the area completely with a fan. However, this only addresses the visible growth. The critical step is identifying and resolving the moisture source. In a closet, this is often condensation from a nearby AC duct or a cold wall meeting humid air. Without fixing this, the mould will return. If the speckles reappear quickly, cover a larger area, or if you detect a musty smell, a professional inspection is strongly advised. They use moisture meters and thermal cameras to locate the hidden source of water intrusion that DIY methods miss. In many cases, resolving the underlying condensation issue is a permanent fix. |
