Can I clean this black mold myself or hire a pro?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a large patch of black mold in the corner of our master bedroom closet, which is on an interior wall. It must have been growing for a while, and I'm worried it's from a slow leak in the AC unit or the pipes. I'm trying to figure out if this is something I can clean myself with bleach from the supermarket, or if I absolutely need to call in a professional mold remediation company here in Dubai. What would a professional service roughly cost to inspect and treat a small area like this?

Based on the description of a large patch of black mold on an interior wall, this is not a situation for a DIY approach with supermarket bleach. In Dubai's climate, where high humidity and year-round AC use are the norm, visible mold is frequently just the tip of the iceberg. The moisture source is the critical issue; it could indeed be a slow leak from concealed AC condensate drain lines, plumbing, or severe interstitial condensation, all of which are common here.

Bleach is surface-level and ineffective on porous materials like drywall. It addresses the discoloration but not the root cause or the underlying fungal growth, which will almost certainly return. More importantly, improper disturbance can aerosolize toxic mold spores, spreading contamination throughout your home and HVAC system, significantly escalating the problem and potential health risks.

A professional inspection is absolutely warranted. We use moisture meters, thermal imaging cameras, and borescopes to pinpoint the exact moisture source and assess the full extent of the contamination within the wall cavity. Remediation involves isolating the area, using HEPA filtration to capture spores, safely removing affected materials, and applying professional-grade antimicrobials.

For a contained area like a closet, inspection and remediation could start in the range of AED 1,500 - AED 3,500, but this is highly dependent on the moisture source's severity. Identifying and rectifying that leak is paramount to a permanent solution. For a definitive diagnosis and quote, I strongly recommend contacting our certified team at Saniservice for an assessment.
