Can I clean this mold myself or call a pro?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots growing along the corner where the wall meets the ceiling in our master bedroom. It’s on an interior wall, not near a window, and I’m worried it’s from a hidden AC leak. Is this something I can clean myself with bleach from the supermarket, or do I absolutely need to call a professional company to check it out?

Based on your description, this is a scenario we encounter frequently in Dubai. The location on an interior wall near the ceiling is a classic indicator of a condensation issue, likely related to your air conditioning system. The constant cycle of cooling and the region's high ambient humidity causes moisture to condense on cold surfaces, like AC supply ducts running inside the ceiling void or on the underside of the concrete slab. This creates a perfect, hidden environment for mold growth.
While a small, superficial patch might be addressed with a detergent solution (we never recommend bleach as it can exacerbate the problem and is ineffective on porous surfaces), your situation requires a professional inspection. The visible spots are often just the "bloom" of a larger colony growing within the wall cavity or on the back of the drywall. Simply wiping the surface will not address the root moisture problem or the hidden contamination, leading to rapid regrowth. In the UAE, improper remediation can spread spores throughout your living space, potentially affecting air quality and health. A certified inspector will use moisture meters and thermal imaging to pinpoint the exact moisture source—whether it's a leaking AC drain line, insufficient insulation causing condensation, or another issue—and take air samples to identify the mold type. This diagnostic step is critical for determining the correct remediation protocol. For a thorough and permanent solution that addresses the hidden cause, I strongly recommend a professional assessment. Contact our team at Saniservice for a comprehensive inspection. Call 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule a visit. We will identify the source, contain the area, and safely remove the contamination to ensure your home is healthy. |
