Can I clean toddler's mold myself or call a professional?« Back to Previous Page

My toddler’s bedroom in our Jumeirah villa has had this damp, earthy smell ever since the heavy humidity last month. I just pulled his toy chest away from the wall and found a patch of black and green speckles spreading behind it, and now I'm really worried. Since it's his room, I’m panicking about whether this is something I can safely clean with bleach myself or if I absolutely need to call a professional company to handle it.

As a certified mold inspector in the UAE, I strongly advise against attempting to clean the mold in your toddler's room yourself, especially given the circumstances you've described. The presence of a persistent damp smell and visible black and green speckles indicates an established colony, likely resulting from the high humidity we experienced. This is a common issue in Jumeirah villas due to condensation from year-round AC use creating ideal conditions for mold growth behind furniture.

Bleach is not a recommended solution; it is ineffective on porous surfaces like drywall and only bleaches the surface mold, leaving the root structure intact. More critically, DIY cleaning can aerosolize toxic mold spores, significantly increasing your toddler's exposure and risk of respiratory issues, allergic reactions, and other health complications.

For a child's bedroom, a professional inspection is non-negotiable. We must identify the moisture source (often a leaking AC condensate drain or interstitial condensation) and assess the extent of contamination within the wall cavity, which is invisible to you. Our protocols follow Dubai Municipality's strict hygiene and environmental standards to ensure complete remediation and prevent recurrence.

For the safety of your family, please do not disturb the area. I recommend immediately contacting our team at Saniservice for a comprehensive inspection and expert remediation. Call us at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule an assessment.
