Can I clean wardrobe mold myself or need a pro?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots appearing along the bottom of the wardrobe in our master bedroom, which is on the wall facing the outside. It’s been incredibly humid lately and I’m worried it’s spreading. Is this something I can clean myself with a vinegar solution from Spinneys, or do I need to call a professional mold removal company in Dubai?

That black spotting along your wardrobe's exterior wall is a classic sign of condensation-related mold, extremely common here due to Dubai's high humidity and constant air conditioning creating temperature differentials on walls. You can attempt to clean a small, surface-level area (less than one square meter) yourself with a dedicated mold cleaner, but vinegar is often insufficient for the resilient species we find here.
For a recurring issue on an exterior wall, surface cleaning alone won't solve it. The moisture is likely wicking from the outside or condensating within the wall cavity. Scrubbing visible growth doesn't address the hidden mold or the root cause, so it will almost certainly return. A professional inspection is recommended in this case. They use moisture meters and thermal imaging to locate the exact source of the dampness—whether it's a minor condensation issue or something more serious like a hidden pipe leak or capillary action from the building envelope. They can then advise on the necessary remediation, which often involves addressing the humidity source, not just the mold itself. For porous materials like drywall or the back of the wardrobe, removal and replacement may be the only permanent solution. |
