Can I fix AC mold in my Dubai apartment myself?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my apartment in Jumeirah Village Circle seems to be leaking into the wall behind it, and now there's a large patch of black mold spreading on the wallpaper. It’s been getting worse over the last two weeks since the humidity spiked. Is this something I can fix myself with a cleaner from ACE, or do I absolutely need to call a professional, and roughly how much would that cost in Dubai?

No, this is not a DIY fix. The leak from the AC unit is the primary issue, and simply cleaning the visible mold on the wallpaper will not solve the underlying problem. The water has likely seeped into the wall cavity, insulation, and possibly the structure behind it, creating a hidden reservoir of mold that will continue to spread.

In Dubai's high humidity, especially with continuous AC operation creating condensation, this situation requires a professional assessment. The black mold indicates a significant moisture problem. A proper remediation involves first fixing the AC leak, then isolating the contaminated area, removing affected drywall and insulation, HEPA vacuuming, and antimicrobial treatment to address the root cause and prevent regrowth.

For an apartment in JVC, you must also notify your building management or landlord immediately, as this concerns the building's AC system and potential property damage. They are typically responsible for fixing the leak source. The cost for professional mold remediation can vary significantly based on the extent of the damage discovered behind the wall, so an on-site inspection is essential for an accurate assessment.
