Can I fix AC mold myself or need a pro in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my apartment in Jumeirah Village Circle seems to be leaking into the wall behind it, and now there’s a large patch of black mold spreading. I wiped it with bleach but it came back worse within a couple of days, and the musty smell is really strong. Is this something I can handle myself with products from ACE, or do I absolutely need to call a professional mold removal company, and what should I expect to pay for a job like this?

Based on the symptoms you've described—recurring black mold after a DIY bleach treatment and a strong musty odor—this is not a situation for DIY solutions from ACE. The rapid return of the mold, especially darker, indicates a deep-seated infestation within your wall cavity, fueled by the ongoing moisture from the AC leak.

Bleach is ineffective on porous surfaces like drywall and wood. It only bleaches the surface pigment while the root structure (hyphae) continues to grow unseen. The high humidity and constant AC operation in Dubai's climate create a perfect environment for rapid mold proliferation. The leak has likely saturated the insulation and wall structure, requiring professional intervention.

In Dubai, proper mold remediation is governed by strict hygiene and safety standards. A certified professional company like Saniservice follows a critical process: first, identifying and stopping the moisture source (the AC leak). Then, they implement full containment with negative air pressure to prevent cross-contamination, safely remove and dispose of contaminated porous materials (drywall, insulation), and use industrial-grade HEPA filtration and antimicrobial agents to clean and sanitize the area. Finally, they will verify the cleanup's success through post-remediation testing.

For a contained issue like an AC leak affecting an interior wall, costs can vary but typically start from AED 2,500 upwards, depending on the extent of the damage and the required repairs.

Given the health risks associated with toxigenic molds like Stachybotrys (black mold) and the structural damage it can cause, we strongly recommend you cease DIY efforts and call a professional immediately for an inspection. Contact Saniservice at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or hello@saniservice.com to get a proper assessment and quotation.
