Can I fix this growing damp wall mold myself?« Back to Previous Page

The wall behind our sofa in the Marina apartment has a patch of black spots that’s slowly getting bigger. We first spotted it a couple of weeks ago, and it has a really damp feel to it, even though there’s no obvious leak. Is this something I can tackle myself with a spray from ACE, or is it time to call in a professional?

Based on your description of a recurring, damp-feeling black patch in a Marina apartment, this is highly indicative of active mold growth. The UAE's high humidity, especially in coastal areas like Marina, combined with year-round air conditioning, creates significant temperature differentials that lead to condensation within walls—a prime condition for mold, even without a visible leak.

While a consumer-grade fungicide from ACE might temporarily remove the surface discoloration, it is a superficial fix that will not address the root cause. The moisture source is likely internal condensation due to inadequate insulation or an AC unit creating a cold spot on the wall. DIY attempts often fail to penetrate porous materials like drywall and can inadvertently spread spores.

For a definitive solution, a professional inspection is strongly advised. Our certified inspectors use thermal imaging cameras to accurately identify the hidden moisture source and air sampling to determine the spore count and species, which is critical for health and remediation planning. In Dubai, remediation must adhere to strict guidelines to ensure complete removal and prevent recurrence.

Attempting remediation yourself risks inadequate containment, leading to cross-contamination and potential health issues.
