Can I remove AC mold myself or call a pro?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in our bedroom closet has been leaking a little and now we’ve discovered black spots spreading on the back wall and some of our shoes. It’s been getting worse over the past couple of weeks since the humidity shot up. Is this something I can tackle myself with bleach and a scrub from ACE Hardware, or do I need to call a professional mold removal company here in Dubai?

Based on the scenario you've described, this is a situation that warrants a professional inspection and remediation. The combination of a leaking AC unit, the UAE's high ambient humidity, and the presence of visible black mold growth on porous materials (drywall and shoes) creates a potentially serious contamination issue.
Attempting a DIY removal with bleach is strongly discouraged. Bleach is ineffective on porous surfaces as it only bleaches the surface mold while leaving the root structure intact. Furthermore, it can release harmful chlorinated compounds into the air and does not address the underlying moisture problem. The leaking AC must be repaired by a certified HVAC technician first; otherwise, the mold will return. In Dubai, professional mold remediation follows strict protocols to ensure occupant safety and prevent cross-contamination. Our certified teams at Saniservice use EPA-registered, non-toxic biocides, employ HEPA filtration to capture airborne spores, and contain the affected area. For porous items like the damaged wall and contaminated shoes, proper disposal is often the only safe option. Given the rapid spread you've observed, this indicates an active colony. We recommend a professional assessment to determine the extent of the infestation, even behind the walls. For a definitive evaluation and a safe, guaranteed remediation plan, please call our experts at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com. |
