Can I remove AC wall mold myself or need a pro?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in our Jumeirah apartment seems to be leaking a bit into the wall behind it, and now we’ve discovered a patch of black mold in the corner of our bedroom. It’s been getting worse since the humidity really kicked in last month. Is this something I can tackle myself with bleach from ACE, or do I absolutely need to call a professional mold removal company here?

Based on the conditions you've described in your Jumeirah apartment, I strongly recommend against a DIY approach and advise you to call a professional mold remediation company. The combination of an AC leak, high ambient humidity, and visible black mold growth indicates a more serious, systemic issue.

Attempting to remove it yourself with bleach is ineffective and potentially hazardous. Bleach only bleaches the surface mold you can see; it does not kill the root structure (hyphae) penetrating the porous wall material. More critically, disturbing the mold without proper containment can aerosolize toxic spores, spreading the contamination throughout your living space and HVAC system, significantly increasing health risks and the scope of the problem.

In the UAE's climate, AC units are a primary vector for mold. The constant condensation, if not properly drained, creates a perpetual moisture source. A professional inspection is crucial to first identify and rectify the source of the moisture—the leaking AC unit. Without solving this, the mold will return regardless of any cleaning. Our certified technicians use moisture meters, thermal imaging, and specialized HEPA filtration equipment to safely contain the area, remove contaminated materials, and apply EPA-approved antimicrobial agents that permanently neutralize the mold, not just mask it.

For a confirmed AC leak and spreading black mold, professional remediation is not just advisable; it is essential for your health and property. Please contact our team for a comprehensive inspection and solution. Call Saniservice at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com.
