Can I remove black mold myself or need a professional?« Back to Previous Page

The corner behind my wardrobe in the bedroom has started turning black with mold, and it's definitely gotten worse since the humidity spiked a few weeks ago. I tried wiping it with vinegar, but it came back even darker. I'm worried it's spreading into the wall itself. Is this something I can tackle on my own with a stronger cleaner, or do I need to call in a professional company to deal with it?

Based on your description, this is a case that requires professional intervention. The reappearance of the mold, especially darker after a DIY attempt, is a significant red flag. In Dubai's climate, high humidity and year-round AC use create ideal conditions for mold growth within building structures. The black discoloration behind the wardrobe strongly suggests a persistent moisture source, likely condensation from the AC system or a hidden leak, which has now permeated the wall.

Vinegar and other consumer-grade cleaners are only effective on surface-level mold and do not address the root moisture problem or the hyphae (root system) growing within the porous wall material. Aggressively scrubbing it can aerosolize harmful spores, spreading the contamination to other areas of your home.

UAE regulations, particularly from Dubai Municipality, emphasize the importance of proper indoor air quality and remediation to prevent health risks and structural damage. A professional assessment is critical. We use specialized tools like moisture meters and borescopes to determine the extent of the infestation within the wall cavity and identify the exact moisture source. Remediation involves containment to prevent cross-contamination, HEPA filtration, and the application of professional-grade biocides approved for use in the UAE, followed by hygienization.
