Can I remove closet mold myself or call a pro?« Back to Previous Page

Our bedroom closet on the outside wall has started to get these black speckles in the corners, and I'm pretty sure it's mold. It's gotten worse since the humidity spiked a couple of weeks ago, and I'm worried it's spreading behind the clothes. Is this something I can tackle myself with bleach and vinegar, or do I need to call one of those professional mold removal companies in Dubai?

Based on your description of black speckles on an exterior wall closet worsening with high humidity, this is a classic case of mold growth, a common issue in Dubai due to our extreme climate. The combination of high ambient humidity and year-round air conditioning creates significant temperature differentials, leading to condensation on cooler surfaces like exterior walls—the perfect environment for mold.

While small surface mold can sometimes be addressed by a homeowner, your situation raises several red flags. The location on an exterior wall suggests a potential condensation issue within the wall cavity itself. The fact that it is spreading and you suspect growth behind the clothes indicates a more established colony. DIY methods like bleach or vinegar are strongly discouraged. Bleach is ineffective on porous surfaces, as it only removes the surface discoloration while leaving the root structure intact. Vinegar can kill some surface mold but is not a comprehensive solution. Both methods fail to address the underlying moisture source, guaranteeing the mold will return.

UAE regulations and best practices for healthy indoor air quality recommend professional assessment and remediation for persistent mold. Disturbing the colony yourself can aerosolize spores, spreading the contamination to other areas of your home and posing inhalation risks.

For a case like this, a professional inspection is critical. We use thermal imaging to identify hidden moisture within the wall and air sampling to determine spore count and species. Saniservice's certified technicians then contain the area, safely remove the contaminated materials, employ HEPA filtration to clean the air, and apply professional-grade antimicrobial solutions. Most importantly, we identify and rectify the moisture source to prevent recurrence.

For a proper assessment and lasting solution, I recommend contacting our specialists. Call Saniservice at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com for a consultation.
