Can I remove Jumeirah villa closet mold myself or need professional?« Back to Previous Page

Our master bedroom closet in our Jumeirah villa has had a faint damp smell since the humidity really kicked in last month. I finally cleared it out and found a patch of black mold on the back wall, about the size of a dinner plate, hidden behind some clothes. I’m worried it’s from a small leak and not just condensation. Is this something I can safely tackle myself with bleach and vinegar, or do I need to call in a professional mold removal company here in Dubai?

Based on the description of your Jumeirah villa closet, I would strongly advise against a DIY removal and recommend a professional inspection and remediation. The presence of a persistent damp smell and a patch the size of a dinner plate indicates a significant moisture issue. In Dubai's high-humidity climate, this is often more than just surface condensation and frequently points to a concealed leak from plumbing, AC drain lines, or a breach in the building envelope, which you suspect.

Using bleach or vinegar is a common misconception and is not an effective or recommended solution. Bleach is primarily water, which can feed the mold roots deep within porous materials like drywall, and its fumes are hazardous in an enclosed space. Vinegar may kill some surface mold but will not address the root cause or remove mycotoxins. Disturbing the colony yourself also risks aerosolizing spores, leading to cross-contamination throughout your bedroom and HVAC system.

For a case of this nature, UAE regulations and best practices dictate that the source of moisture must be professionally identified and rectified first. The affected building materials likely require controlled removal and disposal, followed by specialized antimicrobial treatment and air scrubbing to ensure the space is safe and the mold will not return.

Given the potential health risks and property damage, a professional assessment is critical. Our certified team at Saniservice uses thermal imaging and moisture meters to pinpoint the exact moisture source and provides a comprehensive remediation plan.
