Can I remove mold myself or hire a pro in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived in our villa in Jumeirah for 2 years and just noticed dark black spots spreading along the wall behind our wardrobe, probably from the humidity. It’s gotten worse since the recent foggy mornings and my toddler’s room is next door, which has me really worried. Is this something I can tackle myself with products from ACE, or should I call a professional company for a proper job? What’s the realistic cost range for a professional mold remediation service for a couple of walls?

Based on the description of dark black spots spreading behind a wardrobe in a Jumeirah villa, this is a serious concern, particularly with a toddler nearby. The high humidity in Dubai, exacerbated by recent fog and year-round AC use, creates a perfect environment for toxic mold growth, often of the Stachybotrys (black mold) variety.

While small surface mold on non-porous materials can sometimes be addressed with a dedicated fungicide from a hardware store, your case is not a DIY project. The location behind a wardrobe indicates a significant moisture issue, likely condensation from the AC or a hidden leak. DIY cleaning with bleach or store-bought products only bleaches the surface appearance and does not address the root moisture problem or the hyphae (root system) growing deep within the wall's porous material. This causes it to return aggressively and, worse, disturbs it, releasing a high concentration of harmful spores into your home's air, which is a severe health risk for your family.

Professional remediation is essential. The process involves containment of the area with negative air pressure, HEPA filtration, safe removal of contaminated porous materials (drywall, insulation), specialized antimicrobial treatment, and, crucially, identifying and resolving the source of moisture. For a situation involving a couple of walls, the cost for professional remediation in Dubai can realistically range from AED 2,500 to AED 7,000, depending on the extent of contamination and the required repairs.

Given the health implications and the complexity of a proper remediation, I strongly recommend an immediate professional inspection. Our certified team at Saniservice can conduct a comprehensive assessment to determine the species, extent, and source.
