Can I remove recurring bathroom mold myself or hire professional?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing and I suspect it's from the mold that's been growing in our master bathroom in Jumeirah. It's mostly in the grout between the tiles and around the window frame, which seems to get a lot of condensation. I tried scrubbing it with bleach but it came back darker after just a couple of weeks. Is this something I can handle myself with a stronger product, or do I need to call a professional cleaning company?

Bathroom mold in Dubai is extremely common due to the high humidity and condensation from year-round AC use. If scrubbing with bleach caused it to return darker, you're likely dealing with a deeper, established colony that bleach can't fully eradicate. Bleach is surface-active and doesn't penetrate porous materials like grout or drywall, often pushing the root structure deeper.

For a DIY attempt, switch from bleach to a dedicated fungicidal cleaner designed for building materials. Thoroughly dry the area with a fan after every shower and improve ventilation by keeping the bathroom door open and the AC on. However, if the mold is recurring visibly and linked to health symptoms like your children's cough, a professional assessment is strongly recommended. Persistent issues often indicate a hidden moisture source or that the mold has infiltrated behind the tiles or into the window frame substrate.

A professional inspection can identify the specific mold type and the extent of the problem, which is crucial when health is a concern. Remediation involves containing the area, physically removing contaminated materials, and applying industrial-grade antimicrobials. For a science-driven approach, the process should be verified with before-and-after testing to confirm the environment is measurably improved.
