Can I remove this bedroom mold myself or need a pro?« Back to Previous Page

Our villa in Jumeirah has been super humid since the recent storms, and I’ve just found a patch of black, fuzzy mold spreading on the back of our bedroom wardrobe. It’s a decent size, maybe two feet across, and we’ve all been waking up with stuffy noses. Is this something I can tackle myself with bleach from ACE, or do I absolutely need to call a professional? If so, what’s the ballpark cost for a proper mold remediation service here in Dubai for a room this size?

Based on the description of a two-foot patch of black, fuzzy mold following recent storms and the accompanying health symptoms, I strongly recommend you do not attempt remediation yourself. This is a significant infestation that requires professional assessment and remediation.

In Dubai's climate, high humidity and year-round AC use create perfect conditions for mold, particularly Stachybotrys chartarum (often referred to as "black mold"), which can produce mycotoxins. The stuffy noses you're experiencing are a clear indicator of exposure. Applying bleach is a common but ineffective DIY mistake; it only removes surface discoloration and does not address the root moisture problem or kill the mold's hyphae (roots) penetrating the porous wardrobe material. Furthermore, improper handling can aerosolize spores, spreading the contamination throughout your bedroom and HVAC system.

For a proper remediation, the process involves containment of the area with negative air pressure, HEPA filtration, safe removal of contaminated materials, application of EPA-approved antimicrobials, and finally, post-remediation verification to ensure the spore count is within safe levels. For a single room of this nature in a Jumeirah villa, you can expect a ballpark cost ranging from AED 2,500 to AED 5,000, depending on the extent of the infestation and the required containment measures.

Given the health risks and potential for property damage, a professional inspection is essential. I advise you to contact our certified team at Saniservice for a comprehensive assessment.
