Can I remove this black mold myself or call a pro?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed black speckles growing along the bottom of the wall behind our sofa in the living room. It's an interior wall and the room always feels a bit damp, even with the AC running constantly. Is this something I can tackle myself with vinegar or bleach, or is it time to call one of those professional mold removal companies in Dubai?

Based on your description of black speckles on an interior wall with a persistent damp feeling, this is a classic case of mold growth, a very common issue in Dubai due to our high humidity levels and constant air conditioning use. While small surface mold on non-porous materials can sometimes be addressed with a diluted detergent solution, your situation indicates a more serious problem.

The dampness suggests a potential condensation issue, possibly from thermal bridging in the wall or an underlying moisture source. Using bleach or vinegar is strongly discouraged. These are ineffective at penetrating porous materials like drywall to kill the root system and can actually aggravate the problem by releasing mold spores and mycotoxins into the air. More critically, DIY attempts often spread the contamination to other areas of your home.

For a confirmed and safe remediation, professional intervention is necessary. We adhere to strict IICRC S520 protocols for mold remediation, which involves isolating the affected area with negative air pressure, safely removing and disposing of contaminated porous materials (like your wall's drywall), and using industrial-grade HEPA filtration to clean the air. A professional inspection is crucial to identify the exact moisture source—be it condensation, a hidden leak, or inadequate insulation—to prevent recurrence.

For a proper assessment and a permanent solution, I recommend contacting our certified team at Saniservice. Call 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule an inspection.
