Can I remove this mold myself or call a pro?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots spreading along the wall behind our bedroom wardrobe in Jumeirah. It's been extra humid lately and the AC unit in that room has been dripping more than usual. Is this something I can tackle myself with bleach from the supermarket, or should I call a professional company for mold removal, and what would that typically cost in Dubai?

It depends on the extent. For a small, surface-level patch (under 1 square foot), you can attempt DIY with caution. For the spreading growth you describe behind furniture, a professional assessment is strongly recommended to identify the moisture source and full extent.

DIY methods with supermarket bleach are often ineffective for porous materials like drywall and can actually worsen indoor air quality by releasing spores. The AC drip indicates an underlying humidity or condensation issue common in Dubai's climate that must be fixed first; otherwise, the mold will return quickly.

Professional remediation involves containment to prevent spore spread, safe removal of affected materials, HEPA vacuuming, and antimicrobial treatment. Reputable firms in Dubai should provide before-and-after testing from an accredited lab to verify the space is safe. Costs vary significantly based on the infestation's size and accessibility but are an investment in resolving the root cause, not just the visible spots.
