Can I remove this mold myself or need a pro?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing and I suspect it might be mold. I just found a small patch of black spots behind the wardrobe in our master bedroom, and our apartment in Jumeirah Lakes Towers always feels so humid no matter how low we set the AC. Is this something I can tackle myself with bleach and a scrub brush, or do I absolutely need to call a professional mold inspection company here in Dubai?

Based on your description, this is a situation that warrants a professional inspection. The combination of persistent humidity in your Jumeirah Lakes Towers apartment, active health symptoms in your children, and visible mold growth indicates a potential indoor air quality issue that goes beyond a simple surface blemish.
Attempting removal with bleach is strongly discouraged. Bleach is ineffective on porous surfaces like drywall and wood, which likely lie behind that wardrobe. It only bleaches the surface pigment and does not address the root hyphae (roots) of the mold. More critically, improper scrubbing can aerosolize spores, significantly increasing their concentration in the air you and your children breathe, potentially exacerbating respiratory issues like coughing. In Dubai's climate, where high humidity and year-round AC use create constant condensation risks, the visible patch is often just the "tip of the iceberg." The moisture source must be identified and resolved; otherwise, regrowth is inevitable. Our inspections follow UAE standards and use tools like thermal imaging and moisture meters to find hidden moisture and assess the full extent of contamination, including within the AC system itself, which is a common amplifier for mold problems. For the health of your family and to ensure the problem is resolved correctly, I recommend a certified inspection. Please contact our team at Saniservice for a comprehensive assessment.
