Can I remove villa mold myself or need a pro?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in our villa in Jumeirah 3 has been leaking a bit and now we’ve discovered a large patch of black mold in the back of the master bedroom wardrobe. It’s been really humid lately and the smell is getting strong. Is this something I can tackle myself with bleach from ACE, or do I absolutely need to call a professional mold removal company, and what’s the typical cost for a job like this?

Based on the details you've provided from your villa in Jumeirah 3, I strongly advise against a DIY approach. The combination of a confirmed AC leak, a large patch of black mold, and a strong musty odor indicates a significant and potentially hazardous infestation that requires professional remediation.

The primary concern is the AC leak, which is actively feeding the mold with a constant moisture source. Simply cleaning the visible patch in the wardrobe with bleach is a temporary and ineffective solution. Bleach does not kill mold on porous surfaces like wood and drywall; it only bleaches the visible colour. The root system (hyphae) remains deep within the material and will regrow rapidly. More critically, improper cleaning can aerosolize the spores, spreading the contamination throughout your bedroom and HVAC system, significantly increasing health risks and the scope of the problem.

Given Dubai's high humidity and our reliance on year-round AC, this environment is a perfect breeding ground for mold. A professional company like Saniservice is equipped to first identify the exact species (some types of "black mold" are more hazardous than others), contain the area to prevent cross-contamination, use industrial-grade HEPA filtration to remove spores from the air, and, most importantly, identify and rectify the moisture source—in this case, the AC leak. The cost for a job of this nature is variable but typically starts from AED 2,500+ depending on the extent of the infestation and the repairs needed to the AC unit and affected building materials.

For your family's health and to ensure the problem is solved permanently, you need a professional inspection and remediation. Please call us at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com for an immediate assessment.
