Cost to professionally treat black mold in Dubai shower?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed black mold spots growing in the grout between the tiles in our master bathroom shower. It's a windowless bathroom and the exhaust fan is pretty weak, so I guess the humidity has been building up. I’m in an older building in Bur Dubai. What’s the average cost to get this professionally treated here, and is it a big enough job that I shouldn’t just try to scrub it myself with bleach?

Professional treatment cost depends entirely on the extent. For surface mold confined to grout lines in a standard shower, expect a straightforward cleaning and sealing service. If the mold has penetrated behind tiles or into the drywall, the scope and cost increase significantly for removal and reconstruction.
Given your building's age in Bur Dubai and the weak ventilation, there's a high chance moisture has seeped deeper than the surface. Bleach only removes the surface colour and is ineffective on porous materials; it can also worsen indoor air quality during scrubbing. A professional assessment determines if this is a surface issue or requires tile removal to address the root cause. In Dubai's climate, weak bathroom fans are a primary cause of recurrent mold. The treatment is only effective if paired with resolving the humidity. Upgrading to a higher-capacity exhaust fan is often necessary to meet Dubai Civil Defence standards for moisture evacuation and prevent immediate regrowth. For an accurate scope and quote, a certified inspector can use a moisture meter to check the walls behind the tiles. This identifies if the problem is deeper and prevents you from paying for a full remediation if a deep clean and improved ventilation will suffice. |
