Cost to treat small black mold patch in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black mold in the corner of our master bedroom closet where we store our winter clothes. It's on the wall and seems to be spreading, and I'm worried it's because of the humidity. What's the typical price range to get a small area like this professionally treated in Dubai, and is it something I can handle myself with bleach or is that a bad idea?

Professional treatment for a small, contained patch of mold typically requires an on-site assessment to provide an accurate quote. Costs are determined by the extent of the infestation behind the surface, the required containment procedures, and the HVAC assessment to find the moisture source. For a closet-sized area, you are likely looking at a targeted remediation project rather than a full-home treatment, which keeps costs more manageable.

Using bleach is not recommended. It is mostly water, which can feed the mold roots deep in porous materials like drywall. It also fails to address the underlying humidity problem and releases harmful fumes, especially in a confined space. For a small patch, a DIY approach with a vinegar solution or a dedicated mold remover can be effective for surface cleaning if the root cause is solved.

However, the presence of black mold spreading on an interior wall is a significant red flag. In Dubai's climate, this almost always indicates a hidden moisture issue, potentially from a small plumbing leak within the wall, condensation from an AC duct, or capillary rising damp. Simply cleaning the visible spot will not stop it from returning. A professional inspection is crucial to identify and rectify the source; otherwise, the problem will recur. The remediation is only permanent once the moisture source is eliminated.
