Could AC be causing our health issues?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my apartment seems to be running non-stop lately, even when it’s not that hot outside. My throat has been feeling dry and scratchy, and my partner has complained of headaches and a runny nose every morning. We’ve lived here for 2 years and just noticed these symptoms, but we haven’t changed anything in the apartment recently. Could the air conditioning be causing health issues?

Could AC be causing your health issues? A concern for many in Dubai and the UAE where summers can be extremely hot. Air conditioning systems are indeed a common source of indoor air quality (IAQ) problems, especially when they aren't maintained properly.

In your case, the non-stop operation of the AC unit, alongside symptoms like dry throat, headache, runny nose, could very well be linked to poor IAQ. The AC system can circulate allergens and contaminants if not serviced regularly, leading to various health issues. In Dubai, we often see issues with dust mites, mold, and particulate matter from the outside air being pulled in.

Given the symptoms you've described, it's crucial to investigate further. It could be that the AC is not functioning optimally or that it's introducing more pollutants than it’s removing. The air filters might need to be replaced, and the ductwork cleaned of any accumulated dust or mold growth. Regular maintenance by a certified HVAC technician in Dubai/UAE can help ensure your system operates efficiently.

Additionally, IAQ issues like these are not uncommon in older buildings where there is less airflow. In fact, as per UAE standards (UAE Standard No. 23-2017), indoor environments should maintain certain levels of ventilation and air quality to prevent adverse health effects. Your building might need an increase in fresh air supply or improved filtration systems.

For a thorough assessment, it would be wise to contact a professional environmental inspection company like ours. We can perform comprehensive testing to determine the source of your symptoms and provide remediation solutions tailored for Dubai's climate.

Remember, neglecting these issues could lead to more severe health complications over time. Take action now to ensure you and your family are breathing clean air in your home. Call 800-MOLDS or email hello@saniservice.com for a professional consultation today.
