Could the mold in our villa cause my kids' sickness?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have had a runny nose and a nagging cough for over a month now that just won't go away. I was cleaning behind our bedroom wardrobe in our Jumeirah villa and found a huge patch of black mold on the wall, probably from the humidity. It looks really bad and I'm panicking, could this be the cause of their constant sickness?

Based on your description, it is highly probable that the mold growth discovered in your Jumeirah villa is a significant contributing factor to your children's persistent respiratory symptoms. A runny nose and a nagging cough that lasts for over a month are classic indicators of prolonged exposure to a biological contaminant like mold.

The black mold you found is likely releasing mycotoxins and microbial volatile organic compounds (mVOCs) into your indoor air. When inhaled, these particles act as potent irritants and allergens, triggering chronic upper respiratory tract inflammation. Children are particularly susceptible due to their developing immune systems and higher respiratory rates relative to their body size.

The climate in Dubai is a primary catalyst for such infestations. The extreme humidity, especially during summer months, creates an ideal environment for mold growth on surfaces. This is often exacerbated by condensation issues stemming from year-round air conditioning use, where cold walls behind large furniture pieces (like wardrobes) meet warm, humid air, leading to the perfect conditions for a hidden colony to thrive.

Given the extent of the growth you've described ("huge patch"), a DIY approach is not recommended. Disturbing the mold without proper containment can aerosolize a massive amount of spores, drastically increasing exposure. Furthermore, visible growth is often just the tip of the iceberg, with hyphae penetrating deep into the building materials.

For the health of your family, a professional inspection and remediation is imperative. Our certified inspectors use thermal imaging to identify moisture sources and air sampling to quantify spore levels in your living spaces. Saniservice follows strict UAE regulatory guidelines for safe and effective mold removal, including containment, HEPA filtration, and antimicrobial treatment to ensure the problem is resolved at its source.

I strongly advise you to contact our team for an immediate assessment. Please call 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule an inspection.
