Could this mold be causing my kids' persistent cough?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing non-stop for the past week, and I’ve just found black spots spreading behind the wardrobe in our master bedroom. We live in a villa in Jumeirah and it’s been so humid lately, even with the AC running constantly. Could this mold be the reason for their coughs and what’s the safest way to get rid of it with them around?

Based on your description of the situation—persistent coughing in children, visible black microbial growth behind furniture in a humid Jumeirah villa—it is highly probable that the mold is a significant contributing factor to their respiratory symptoms. The constant high humidity we experience in Dubai, even with AC running, creates ideal conditions for mold proliferation, particularly in areas with poor air circulation like behind wardrobes. These colonies release microscopic spores and microbial volatile organic compounds (mVOCs) into the air, which are known irritants and can trigger allergic reactions, asthma, and persistent coughing, especially in children who are more susceptible.

Do not attempt to clean significant growth yourself, especially with children present. Disturbing the colony without proper containment protocols can aerosolize a high concentration of spores, drastically worsening indoor air quality and potentially exacerbating health issues. Over-the-counter solutions are ineffective against the root cause and can be harmful.

The safest and most effective course of action is a professional inspection and remediation. We operate in full compliance with Dubai Municipality's public health and safety regulations, using advanced techniques like hygrothermal imaging to identify moisture sources and HEPA filtration to contain spores during removal. For a situation like this, I strongly recommend you contact our team for a comprehensive assessment. Please call 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule an inspection.
