Black mold in Dubai is often Stachybotrys, which thrives in our high humidity and constant AC use. The condensation from air conditioning units creates ideal damp conditions for it to grow, particularly in poorly ventilated areas like behind walls or under carpets.

First, identify the moisture source—it could be a hidden plumbing leak, condensation from an AC drain pan, or humidity from a bathroom. Simply cleaning the visible mold without fixing the water problem will cause it to return quickly. For small, surface-level patches (less than one square meter), you can clean it yourself with a microfiber cloth and a solution of diluted detergent. Avoid bleach; it doesn't prevent regrowth and can damage materials.

For any recurring mold or larger infestations, professional inspection is strongly recommended. DIY methods often miss the root cause and hidden growth. A proper assessment involves moisture meters and thermal imaging to find the exact source of dampness. In serious cases, a lab test can confirm the species, as not all black-colored molds are the toxic Stachybotrys strain.

The key is controlling humidity. Keep indoor levels below 60% using dehumidifiers, ensure your AC unit is serviced regularly to prevent overflow, and improve ventilation. Always wear an N95 mask and gloves during any cleanup to avoid spore inhalation.
