Dehumidifier for closet mold or AC problem in Dubai villa?« Back to Previous Page

My master bedroom closet in our villa in Jumeirah has started feeling damp to the touch, and a few of my leather bags have developed a faint moldy smell over the last couple of weeks. I run the AC constantly, but it doesn't seem to be helping in this enclosed space. Is this something I can fix by just buying a small dehumidifier, or is this a sign of a bigger AC issue that needs a professional to look at?

Based on your description, this is a classic and very common issue in Dubai villas, especially in enclosed spaces like closets on external walls. Running the AC constantly is not the same as effective dehumidification.

The damp feeling and moldy smell on your leather goods are clear signs of elevated relative humidity, likely above 65%. While a small desiccant dehumidifier can provide a temporary fix for the closet, it's merely treating a symptom. The root cause is almost certainly insufficient negative air pressure and lack of air exchange within that enclosed space. Your AC system is designed to condition the entire villa, not to actively force dry, conditioned air into a closed-off closet.

In the UAE's extreme climate, this localized dampness often points to a few potential issues: 1) The AC system may be undersized or not properly balanced, failing to manage the latent load (humidity) effectively. 2) There could be a minor thermal bridge or insulation issue in the wall behind the closet, causing condensation. 3) The closet's location might be adjacent to a bathroom or kitchen where moisture is generated, and vapor is migrating.

For a proper diagnosis, a professional inspection is strongly recommended. We use thermal imaging cameras and precise hygrometers to identify moisture sources and map humidity levels. This will determine if it's a simple ventilation fix, an AC performance issue, or a building envelope concern.

Don't let mold develop further; it can spread to adjacent clothing and cause heath issues. For a thorough assessment, call our specialists at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com. We can provide a definitive solution to protect your property and belongings.
