Dehumidifier or professional for Jumeirah villa closet mold?« Back to Previous Page
|
My bedroom closet in our Jumeirah villa has started to feel damp to the touch, especially the leather bags and shoes I stored on the top shelf. I noticed it getting worse over the last couple of weeks, and this morning I found a tiny patch of mold on the wall behind a jacket. I run the AC constantly, but it doesn't seem to help this one area.
Is this something I can fix with a dehumidifier from ACE, or do I need to call in a professional to check for a bigger issue?

Based on your description of a Jumeirah villa, this is a classic presentation of a localized humidity issue that a simple dehumidifier from ACE is unlikely to resolve permanently. The UAE's coastal climate, especially in areas like Jumeirah, creates extremely high ambient humidity that constantly infiltrates the building envelope. The fact that your AC is running constantly but not addressing the problem in the closet is a major red flag.
This dampness and mold growth inside a closet, particularly on an exterior wall, typically indicates a more serious underlying issue. The most probable causes are: 1) A breach in the villa's vapor barrier, allowing humid air to penetrate the wall cavity, or 2) A significant temperature differential causing condensation within the wall itself, a common issue with poorly insulated external walls in Dubai construction. The mold you see is just the symptom; the hidden moisture within the wall structure is the real problem. Attempting to fix this with a consumer dehumidifier will only treat the air in the room, not the saturated building materials. The mold needs to be professionally assessed and remediated to prevent health risks and structural damage, in line with Dubai Municipality's strict health and safety standards for indoor environments. I strongly recommend a professional inspection. We use thermal imaging cameras and moisture meters to pinpoint the exact source of the intrusion behind the wall.
