DIY mold removal or professional for Dubai AC leak?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black mold in the corner of our master bedroom closet, probably from a slow AC leak. It’s about the size of a dinner plate and the wall feels damp. Is this something I can handle myself with bleach from ACE, or should I call a professional company for mold removal in Dubai, and what’s a realistic cost I should expect for a job this size?

A dinner plate-sized patch with a damp wall suggests more than surface mold; there's an active moisture source from that AC leak. In Dubai's climate, simply wiping the visible growth won't solve the problem, as high humidity and constant AC use will cause it to return quickly.

For a job this size, DIY is not recommended. Bleach from ACE is ineffective on porous materials like drywall and concrete, as it only bleaches the surface without killing the roots. More importantly, improper handling can aerosolize spores, spreading contamination to other areas of your home. The priority is stopping the AC leak and identifying any hidden moisture within the wall cavity, which requires professional diagnostic equipment.

Professional remediation for a contained area like a closet typically involves isolating the space, removing the affected drywall, treating the underlying structure with EPA-approved antimicrobials, and using HEPA filtration to capture spores. The final cost is driven by the extent of hidden damage and the repairs needed. For a standard patch, expect a cost reflective of the diagnostics, containment, and removal of contaminated materials, followed by a post-remediation verification test to confirm the space is truly clean and dry. Always request a detailed scope of work and ensure the company provides before-and-after lab test results for transparency.
