DIY mold removal or professional help for bedroom in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

We’ve lived in our villa in Al Barsha for two years and just noticed a patch of black, fuzzy mold spreading along the corner of our master bedroom wall, right behind the headboard. It’s gotten much worse since last month’s humidity, and I’m worried about my allergies acting up. Is this something I can handle myself with bleach from ACE, or do I absolutely need to call a professional company for this, and what’s the typical cost for a room this size?

A small patch under 1 square foot can often be handled DIY, but your description suggests a more serious case. The combination of a fuzzy texture, active spreading, and its location on a bedroom wall behind furniture points to a moisture issue within the wall cavity itself, which bleach from ACE cannot address.

Bleach only removes surface discoloration; it does not kill the root structure of the mold growing deep within porous materials like drywall or plaster. The high humidity we experience in Dubai, especially post-rainfall, creates persistent condensation points, often within walls where cool AC meets warm, humid air. This provides a constant source of moisture for regrowth.

Given the size and its location in a sleeping area where you're exposed for hours, a professional inspection is strongly recommended. They will use a moisture meter to find the water source—often a small leak from an AC condensate drain or penetrating dampness—and assess the extent of the damage inside the wall. The remediation cost is not based on room size but on the area of contamination and the required containment measures to prevent spores from spreading. For a contained bedroom issue, expect a process that involves identifying the moisture source, setting up containment, removing affected materials, HEPA vacuuming, and applying antimicrobial solutions, followed by verification that the space is safe. Always request a post-remediation verification test to confirm the job is complete.
