DIY mold removal or professional help for Jumeirah villa?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived in our Jumeirah villa for 2 years and just noticed a large patch of black mold in the back of the walk-in wardrobe on the ground floor, probably from the humidity. It's behind some shelves and looks pretty bad, and we're worried it might be spreading. Is this something I can tackle myself with cleaners from ACE, or do I absolutely need to call a professional company for this? If so, what's a rough estimate for a small room treatment?

The size and location of that mold patch are the deciding factors. For a large, established colony behind shelves in a Jumeirah villa, professional remediation is strongly advised. The high humidity here, especially near the coast, means the moisture source is persistent and the mold is likely more widespread than what's visible.

DIY bleach or vinegar from ACE will only remove surface discoloration, not the root structure (hyphae) penetrating porous materials like drywall or wood. This often leads to rapid regrowth. Aggressive scrubbing can also release a large number of spores into your home's air, potentially causing respiratory issues.

A professional assessment is crucial to identify and rectify the moisture source—often condensation from AC ducts in the wall, a plumbing leak, or rising damp. They will contain the area to prevent cross-contamination, safely remove affected materials, and use industrial-grade HEPA filtration to clean the air. For a walk-in wardrobe of that size, remediation typically focuses on the affected wall section and ensuring the entire space is clean. Look for a provider that offers post-remediation verification testing from an independent lab to confirm the space is truly mold-free, not just visually clean.
