DIY mold removal or professional needed in Dubai Marina?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black mold in the corner of our master bedroom closet, which is on an interior wall. It’s gotten worse since the recent humidity spike. I’m worried about my family’s health, but also don't want to get ripped off. For a small area like this in a Dubai Marina apartment, should I attempt a DIY cleanup or is it absolutely necessary to call a professional mold removal company, and what’s a reasonable price range I should expect?

For a small patch (under one square meter) on a non-porous surface like a painted wall, a cautious DIY approach is often feasible in Dubai. The key is identifying and stopping the moisture source first. In a closet on an interior wall, this is likely condensation from the AC creating a cold spot or high ambient humidity being trapped. Wipe the area with a microfiber cloth and a solution of diluted detergent or white vinegar, then dry it thoroughly with a fan. Always wear an N95 mask and gloves.

However, given Dubai's high ambient humidity and the fact it's returned, professional assessment is strongly advised for two reasons. The visible patch is often just the surface manifestation; mould can penetrate porous materials like drywall or the insulation behind it. A proper inspection with a moisture meter can identify the true extent and the root cause—be it a minor condensation issue or something more serious like a hidden pipe leak.

For a professional remediation in a Dubai Marina apartment, expect pricing to be based on the confirmed scope of work after inspection. A small, contained job is typically less complex. Reputable providers will not quote a fixed price without first diagnosing the problem. They should explain the process, which includes containment of the area, HEPA-filtered air scrubbers, safe removal of affected materials, and application of EPA-approved antimicrobial solutions, followed by verification that the space has been returned to a normal fungal ecology. Always request a detailed report with before-and-after documentation.
