DIY or professional for bedroom mold in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black, fuzzy mold spreading on the wall behind our bedroom wardrobe. It’s on an interior wall and the room’s AC vent is right above it, which has me worried about spores circulating. I’m trying to figure out if this is a DIY fix with bleach or if I absolutely need to call in a professional mold remediation company here in Dubai—and if so, what’s a rough cost I should expect for a single room?

With black mold on an interior wall, especially with an AC vent directly above it, a professional assessment is strongly recommended for a few key reasons. The AC is likely circulating spores, and the location behind furniture suggests a persistent moisture issue—potentially from a small pipe leak inside the wall or chronic condensation exacerbated by Dubai's high humidity. The fuzzy texture indicates active growth.

DIY bleach cleaning is a surface-level fix that often fails. It may temporarily remove the visible stain but won't address the root moisture problem or the hyphae (roots) growing within the porous wall material. The mold will almost certainly return.

In Dubai's climate, where AC systems run year-round and create significant condensation, identifying and rectifying the moisture source is the only permanent solution. This often requires specialized equipment like thermal imaging cameras and moisture meters to find hidden leaks within the wall cavity. For a single room, remediation costs are typically driven by the extent of the hidden damage and the required repairs (e.g., cutting into the wall, replacing drywall, and addressing the leak), not just the visible patch. The most critical step is to get a proper diagnosis to understand the true scope before any cleanup begins.
