DIY or professional for Jumeirah villa's black mold?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived in our villa in Jumeirah for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black mold in the corner of our master bedroom closet, which shares a wall with the bathroom. It’s been getting worse since the humidity spiked a couple of weeks ago. I’m worried about the health risks and the cost. Is this something I can tackle myself with a bleach solution, or should I just call a professional mold removal company in Dubai, and if so, what’s a reasonable price range for a small job like this?

That black mold in your closet is a common issue in Jumeirah villas, especially during high humidity periods when condensation builds up on cooler interior walls. Because it shares a wall with your bathroom, a persistent moisture source like a pipe leak or vapor seepage is likely feeding it, making a simple surface clean ineffective.

For a patch smaller than one square meter, you can attempt to clean it yourself with a dedicated mold remover, not bleach. Bleach only removes surface discoloration and does not address the roots, so the mold will almost certainly return. However, DIY is only a temporary fix if the hidden moisture source isn't identified and corrected.

Given its location and that it's growing, a professional inspection is strongly recommended. They use moisture meters and thermal imaging to find the root cause behind the wall, which is critical for a permanent solution. The cost for a small, contained job like this can vary significantly. The final price depends on the extent of the hidden moisture damage and the required remediation method, not just the visible patch. Always request a detailed assessment and quote that includes identifying the source, the remediation plan, and verification that the area is dried properly afterward.
