Eco-friendly way to kill mold in Jumeirah AC ducts?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in our apartment in Jumeirah Lake Towers has been making this weird, damp smell for the last couple of months, and ever since it started, my husband and I have both had constant headaches and a bit of a sore throat in the mornings. I cleaned the filters but it didn't help, and I'm worried it's mold growing inside the unit from the humidity. Is there an effective, eco-friendly way to clean the AC ducts that actually kills the mold without using harsh chemicals?

Based on the symptoms you're describing – the damp smell, persistent headaches, and morning sore throats – it's highly probable you're dealing with microbial growth, likely mold, within your AC system, a very common issue in JLT and across Dubai due to our intense humidity. Simply cleaning the filters won't address contamination in the deeper ductwork and evaporator coil.

For an effective and eco-friendly remediation, I strongly recommend against DIY attempts. Disturbing mold colonies incorrectly can aerosolize spores throughout your apartment, worsening the problem. Professional-grade eco-friendly solutions are required. We use plant-based, non-toxic enzymatic cleaners and hydrogen peroxide-based sanitizers that are approved for HVAC use. These products break down the mold at a cellular level and inhibit regrowth without leaving toxic residues or VOCs that can worsen indoor air quality, which is the entire point of an eco-friendly approach.

Crucially, the cleaning is only part of the solution. The root cause must be identified and fixed. This often involves checking for drainage blockages (a very frequent issue), ensuring proper insulation on cold surfaces to prevent condensation, and verifying the unit is correctly sized and functioning to manage the latent load (humidity). Dubai Municipality has guidelines on maintaining healthy IAQ, and a professional inspection will ensure everything is brought up to standard.

Given your symptoms, a professional inspection is absolutely necessary. We can conduct a full assessment, including air and swab sampling if needed, to identify the contaminant type and extent, then execute a safe, eco-conscious remediation protocol.

Please call our team at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule an inspection. It’s not worth risking your health over.
