Effective DIY mold removal or hire pro in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots spreading on the wall behind our bedroom wardrobe in Silicon Oasis. It’s been extra humid lately and the room always feels damp. What is the most effective way to get rid of this mold for good, and should I hire a professional company or are there DIY solutions that actually work here?

The black spots behind your wardrobe in Silicon Oasis are a classic sign of a condensation issue, made worse by Dubai's high humidity and our constant AC use. The wall is likely a cold spot where moisture condenses, and the furniture traps damp air, creating an ideal environment for mold.

For a small, surface-level area (less than one square meter), a careful DIY approach can work. Wear an N95 mask and gloves. A solution of white vinegar or a diluted bleach mixture (1 part bleach to 4 parts water) can be effective. Scrub the area, but more importantly, identify and fix the moisture source. Move the wardrobe away from the wall to improve air circulation, ensure your AC is draining properly and not set too high, and consider using a dehumidifier in that room.

However, given that the mold is spreading and you mention the room always feels damp, the problem is likely more serious than surface cleaning can address. The mold may have penetrated the plasterboard or be growing inside the wall cavity, especially if there's a hidden pipe leak or insulation issue. In this case, DIY solutions will only provide a temporary fix and the mold will return.

For a persistent, recurring, or large-scale problem, a professional assessment is strongly recommended. Reputable remediation companies will use moisture meters and thermal imaging to find the exact source of the dampness hidden behind the wall. They follow protocols to contain the area during removal, use HEPA filtration to capture spores, and most importantly, their work is verified with before-and-after lab testing to ensure the spore count in your bedroom has returned to a safe level. This scientific validation is what ensures the mold is gone for good.
