Fastest way to permanently remove mold behind wardrobe?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots spreading on the wall behind our wardrobe in the master bedroom. I'm guessing it's from all the humidity we've had lately, especially with the AC working overtime. What's the fastest way to get rid of this properly so it doesn't come back?

The fastest and most permanent solution involves addressing both the visible growth and its hidden moisture source. In Dubai's climate, this is almost certainly due to condensation from your AC unit or a hidden leak, exacerbated by the wardrobe trapping humid air against the wall.

First, move the wardrobe to fully expose the affected area and improve air circulation. For a small patch, clean the surface with a solution of white vinegar or a dedicated mold remover, wearing an N95 mask and gloves. However, simply wiping it away is a temporary fix.

The critical step is identifying and resolving the moisture issue. Check if the wall is cold and damp to the touch, indicating condensation from an AC supply line in the wall or an improperly insulated external wall. The AC might be set too cold, causing excessive condensation, or a nearby drain line could be leaking.

For a recurring or large problem (over one square meter), a professional inspection is recommended to locate the exact moisture source. They can use thermal imaging to find cold spots and moisture meters to quantify the problem. Remediation often involves cleaning the area with HEPA-filtered equipment, applying antimicrobial solutions, and most importantly, rectifying the condensation issue with proper insulation or AC servicing. This comprehensive approach is what prevents it from returning.
