First step for mold inspection in Dubai AC ducts?« Back to Previous Page
|
My kids have been coughing for a couple of weeks and I suspect it's the AC. I just pulled the vent cover off in our Jumeirah villa's main bedroom and the inside of the duct is completely black with what looks like mold. It's been so humid lately that I'm worried it's spread. What's the first step I should take for a proper mold inspection here in Dubai?

Stop using that AC unit immediately to prevent further spore dispersal. The high humidity we've had creates ideal conditions for mold growth in AC systems, and visible black colonization in ducts is a serious concern that requires professional assessment.
In Dubai, the first step is a certified mold inspection that includes air and surface sampling. A proper inspection will identify the mold species present and measure spore counts in your indoor air compared to the outdoors. This is critical, as the type of mold (e.g., Cladosporium vs. Stachybotrys) determines the health risk and necessary remediation protocol. The inspection report should provide a clear, lab-verified diagnosis of the contamination level. Do not attempt to clean it yourself, as disturbing the mold can aerosolize a high concentration of spores throughout your home. Look for a provider that uses a microbiology lab for culture analysis, as this is the only way to accurately identify the specific mold types present. This scientific approach is essential for resolving a problem of this scale, especially with children experiencing symptoms. |
