Found black mold from AC leak, remove myself or call pro?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing non-stop for the past month and we can't figure out why. I finally pulled out the sofa in our Deira apartment to look behind it and found a huge patch of black mold spreading up the wall from a small AC leak we didn't know about. I'm really worried their cough is from this. What's the safest and most effective way to get rid of this ourselves, or should I just call a professional company right away?

Given the visible spread and your children's persistent symptoms, this requires professional remediation. Black mold growth from AC condensation leaks is extremely common in Dubai's climate, and respiratory irritation from its spores is a legitimate concern.

For a patch larger than one square meter, or any growth caused by HVAC systems, Dubai Municipality guidelines strongly recommend certified professional removal. DIY attempts often aerosolize spores, spreading contamination to other areas. Professionals use containment barriers, HEPA air scrubbers, and specialized antimicrobial treatments to remove the mold colony safely and address the moisture source—in this case, the AC leak.

The company you hire should provide a detailed post-remediation verification report, often from an independent third-party lab, to confirm spore counts have returned to normal indoor levels. This is the only way to be certain the environment is safe, especially with ongoing health symptoms. Until it's handled, keep the area isolated and the room well-ventilated.
