Found black mold in Dubai home. Is it dangerous?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing non-stop for the last month and we can't figure out why. I finally pulled out the guest room wardrobe today and found a huge patch of black mold spreading up the wall behind it. We're in an older building in Deira and I'm panicking about their health. What's the most effective way to get this professionally removed and make sure it's safe for them?

Black mold in a Dubai home can be a significant health concern, especially for children with persistent respiratory symptoms like coughing. The type and concentration determine the risk, and a lab culture is the only way to confirm it. For infants and those with asthma or allergies, exposure can worsen conditions.

In an older Deira building, this is a common issue driven by the high humidity and condensation from year-round AC use. The wall behind the wardrobe is a classic problem spot where cool interior walls meet warm, humid air, creating a perfect environment for mold growth.

For a large patch, professional remediation is strongly advised. The most effective process involves more than just wiping it down. Proper containment with physical barriers and negative air pressure is critical to prevent spores from spreading to other parts of the home during removal. The contaminated materials must be carefully removed and disposed of. Afterwards, the area should be HEPA-vacuumed and treated with antimicrobial solutions. The underlying cause, which is likely persistent dampness from condensation or a hidden leak, must be identified and fixed; otherwise, the mold will return.

Start by contacting a company with certified mold inspectors who can conduct air and surface sampling to be analyzed by a third-party microbiology lab. This provides a verified report on the species and spore count, which is essential for guiding the remediation strategy and confirming the home is safe for your children post-cleanup. Always request this documentation.
